Individuality – They instantly turn almost any object into a small billboard for a person’s identity. From mobile devices to laptops to water bottles to car windows, stickers have become an increasingly a popular way to make a bold, personalized statement. People love to decorate their stuff to showcase their interests and individuality. No wonder they are the go-to style enhancement… they’re fun, incredibly easy to use and removable when interests change.
Broad Reach – Not only are stickers a billboard for an individual’s personality, they are powerful little brand promoters. As society has become increasingly influenced by reviews and opinions of their connections, a sticker on a student’s water bottle or story about it on their social media feed reaches far more people than just the recipient. With repeated exposure, sticker owners and viewers become more familiar with the brand.
Affordable – For organizations looking to capture sustained audience engagement, promotional stickers inexpensively deliver long-lasting performance. Because they are often under a dollar a sticker, this product offers an excellent return on investment.
In-House Designers – To make the process easier and to save you time, Magellan Promotions’ creative team can produce an original, custom solution for you. Color matching, unique shapes and assorted sizes allow us to meet your specific branding requirements.
Easy to Remove – An important distinction is that we use ultra-removable adhesive on our promotional stickers to protect the surfaces they’re applied to. They won’t leave sticky residue behind, thus making them a crowd favorite for temporary or long-term personalization.
Three popular options for custom sticker sheets
As well-liked as keyboard options are, our custom sticker sheets are by far our most popular choice. For just a small increase in price, sheets can include keyboard stickers PLUS more. The sticker sheet is fully customized for each design. The number of stickers, the die-cut shapes and each size are all variable. There are three popular sheet sizes but custom sizes are available. Sticker sheets pack a ton of marketing heft in something that’s a breeze to distribute and share. They’re flat and lightweight, which makes them perfect to mail or hand out at events. With our sticker sheets, you can go a step further and make it an entire marketing piece, as branding images and marketing copy can be printed on either (or both) sides of the page.
For all three custom sticker sheet sizes, we offer two levels of printing, premium and standard. Premium stickers are offset printed, have a matte finish, are high resolution and two-sided printing is available. The standard option stickers are digitally printed, have a glossier finish and are not as high of resolution, so can be more pleasing to the budget.
Both the standard and premium sticker sheets look very similar and can be tough to notice the differences without seeing and holding them in person. If you would like both types of custom sticker sheets mailed to you, please contact us here.
Meet the interactive direct mailer. When a recipient pulls the postcard out from the rest of their mail, it becomes something they can engage with right away. That’s because removable stickers are built right into the card. It can hold one or a combination of different stickers. It’s all up to you! Magellan Promotions can even take care of mailing and fulfillment if needed.
These are small stickers that cover specific keys on a computer keyboard. For example, for a University of Minnesota promotion, the college’s stylized “M” covered the “M” key. Larger keys like the shift, return or space bar can include entire logos, mascots or phrases. Many people spend a third of their day sitting in front of a keyboard, so they’ll see it multiple times daily. They stand out because the keyboard is such a unique place for decoration and is usually a dull gray or black. The keyboard sticker goes beyond the person you’re giving it to. Because it is so visible and fun, users will be asked “hey, where’d you get that cool sticker on your keyboard?”

Creating a Knock Out Sticker Design
Let the fun begin. Designing your custom stickers can be a fun process, whether you’re designing a sticker sheet, keyboard sticker, or one of our many other options. Most of our stickers are fully customizable, so you can take your design in a lot of different directions. Here are a few things you should keep in mind:
Designing Your Stickers
With a custom die, the sky’s the limit. A “die” is a specialized piece of metal used to cut a specific shape out of a material, in this case a sticker sheet. Our custom die technique gives you the ability create as many custom sized and shaped stickers on the sheet as you desire. This way the stickers really feature your logos and are more likely to appeal to your audiences.
Why get a custom die? It makes your stickers one of a kind! You can die cut specific shapes and add as many stickers as you want. This means no two custom-die sticker projects are ever alike. The more creative and thoughtful you are about your die, the more unique and memorable your stickers will be.
Can I reuse my custom die? Absolutely! Once you’ve bought the die, it’s yours. You may reuse the die on subsequent repeat orders. If you want to change the artwork, you can do that too – just don’t change the sticker size or placement. That would mean you’d need a new die.
Inspiration is everywhere. When you create your design, think about additional elements that can be turned into a sticker. Are you using a picture of your mascot as your background? Turn it into a sticker. Want to highlight an iconic building on campus? Make it a sticker.
Be Clear That It’s A Sticker
Design with the peel in mind. Make sure it’s clear where your stickers are on the sheet. This is especially important if you’ve chosen a light background color, in which case the die lines might not be as obvious as on a darker color. You want to make finding and peeling the sticker as easy as possible for the user, after all. So, here are a few tips:
- Have simple text that points out your stickers, such as “Peel here! “or “I’m a Sticker!”
- Include a mention of the stickers in your copy
- Use an image of a keyboard to indicate that a keyboard sticker is included
Picking the Background Color
Consider using a strong background color. A white or very light color may cause your stickers to get mistaken for your printed piece of paper. If you really want your stickers to stand out, consider making each sticker a color that contrasts with the background.
Think About Your Copy
The power of words. Every sticker has a story. Engaging copy is critical for a postcard sticker, but good content can be just as powerful on a sticker sheet or keyboard sticker. In fact, incorporating brand messaging and targeted content into a promotional product, such as stickers, can make for a more impactful item.
Hashtags: Make sure to include a hashtag in your design so your end users can tag pictures of your stickers on social media. Even better? Turn your hashtag into a sticker itself! When you’re picking your hashtag, make sure to do a little research in advance. The more tailored and unique your hashtag, the less chance you’ll get unrelated posts using the same hashtag.
Make It Fun! You can also include inside jokes and references that your end users would understand. The more fun and relevant your stickers and design are, the more likely your stickers will be placed in prominent locations.
Printing on Other Side: Want to add text to the back of your sticker sheet? Whether you’re doing a sticker postcard or a sticker sheet, we can do that in either black or full color! Just ask your Account Manager for details.
Extra Tips for Keyboard Stickers
Know your options. The most popular version of our keyboard sticker includes a sticker in the upper right-hand corner, with an image of a keyboard with the sticker across the bottom. But that’s just one way to do it. Here are a few more ideas:
Rotate the die! As long as the sticker doesn’t move, you can rotate your artwork to fit our die. That means your keyboard sticker can be in any corner of the 3″ x 3″ card. If you want a different placement, we can do that, too. This may require a custom die, but that will allow you to add more than one sticker, as well.
Background Images: Many designs use a keyboard as the background of their keyboard sticker. You can also use an image or creative graphic. With the full-color background, you have creative control over the design.
Extra Tips for Postcard Stickers
Your Two-Sided Design: Now that the front of the postcard is how you want it, what about the back? This is where you can really shine with some fresh design and copy. With a full-color front and back at no additional charge, use the space on the back of the card for more than copy. Add some flair with images and graphics!
Lamination: Lamination is key if you’re planning to mail your postcard stickers. The lamination makes the material more durable, and protects against the mailing machines that process the postcards. Without lamination, you risk your postcard stickers being severely damaged when processed by USPS.
Now the Technical Stuff
Once you have the design you want, here are some basics you need to know.
- ¼” Design Bleed: All designs need to include a 1/4″ bleed on each side of your design.
- 1/8” Sticker Bleed: Stickers should have a 1/8” bleed around all die lines. Include your die lines when you submit your files to us.
- ¼” Safe Line: All text, stickers and critical images should be within a safe line, 1/4″ from the cut line.
- Make sure to leave enough room in between your stickers so the bleed lines don’t run into each other.
- Call out any specific PMS colors you need. Our stickers are printed in full color, and we do our best to match PMS colors when printing.
Production Time: Production time on our stickers generally varies from ten to fifteen business days, based on the type of sticker. Keep in mind, production doesn’t begin until we have final proof approval, and shipping times can be one to five business days. This means that your sticker project will take about 15-20 business days to arrive once you’ve given your final proof approval.
Marketing, University of Dayton
The University of Dayton wanted to get a promotional sticker sheet into the hands of its alumni and donors. Collaborating with our account manager, Alyssa Adriansen, they produced a sticker sheet we were able to insert directly into the university’s alumni magazine that’s distributed to over 74,000 constituents. Magellan Promotions shipped the sticker sheets directly to the magazine printer to bind into the publication.
The team was pleased to make use of an existing mailing for its campaign and provide a tangible product for alumni to show off their Flyer pride! The university reports they’ve had a great response to the stickers.
Alumni Association, University of Georgia
This alumni office gives keyboard stickers out at events and includes them in mailers.
“We love the keyboard stickers and they remain one of the most popular giveaway items in our office!”
– Shea Landers, Business Manager, the University of Georgia
Alumni Association, University of Minnesota – Twin Cities
Check out these proud Gophers! The University of Minnesota Alumni Association gave keyboard stickers to alumni working at Target to build school pride and strengthen the relationship with the company. Since Target’s corporate office is located in Minneapolis, many of UMN’s graduates are employed with the company and have created a Target alumni network.
Jon Ruzek, Vice President of Engagement at the Alumni Association, said a post featuring proud alumni was one of his most viewed posts on LinkedIn. Thus not only do alumni love these stickers, they resonate really well when shared on social media.
Admissions, George Washington University
George Washington University put a full-size custom die-cut sticker sheet in their admitted student packs for the first time in 2018. They did an outstanding job of using the space, incorporating school colors, unique logos and campus landmarks, giving admitted students a wide range of options with which to decorate their tech, water bottles and more. They knew the design and stickers were going over really well when early admitted students, who did not receive the stickers in their admit packs because the design was not finalized at the early admission date, started contacting the office about how they could get the stickers. They were seeing them posted on social media and wanted some for themselves.
American Association of German Teachers
The American Association of German Teachers know the power of the Enter Key Keyboard Sticker. They ordered 45,000 for teachers to distribute as part of an ongoing promotional campaign. The stickers featured the phrase “Wunderbar Together – Germany and the U.S.,” creating a visible reminder of the campaign celebrating the Federal Republic of Germany’s Deutschlandjahr USA/Year of German-American Friendship.
“The stickers, along with posters, promotional postcards and Gummibären, were shipped to German educators across the US. Here is some feedback we received:
- Awesome box! I especially LOVE the keyboard stickers! Sehr clever!
- I had the students stick the enter-key sticker on all our world language Chromebooks (which we shared throughout the entire WL department!) because it was such a neat idea!
- The keyboard stickers are cute!”
– Keith Cothrun, Executive Director, American Association of German Teachers
