The growth of eco-friendly products in the promotional products marketplace continues to increase at a lightening pace. So we wanted to review one of the fastest growing products in the industry, organic t-shirts. We have picked out three organic cotton t-shirts to review; the Anvil organic cotton t-shirt, the Econscious organic cotton t-shirt, and the Verve organic cotton t-shirt.

First, before we review these shirts, we want to do a quick overview as to why organic cotton production is eco-friendly. Conventional cotton is prone to insect attack, so to increase yields, toxic insecticides and pesticides are used in its production. The intensive use of toxic insecticides and other toxic chemicals in cotton has caused serious health and environmental impacts, including water contamination and the killing of birds and fish.

Organic cotton is produced in organic agricultural systems that produce food and fiber according to clearly established standards. Organic agriculture prohibits the use of toxic and persistent chemical pesticides and fertilizers, as well as genetically modified organisms. It seeks to build biologically diverse agricultural systems, replenish and maintain soil fertility, and promote a healthy environment.

In this product review, we will be rating and providing information in several categories: basic information, wearability (pre-wash and post-wash), available colors, pricing, and overall satisfaction.

Basic Information

Anvil – 5.0oz – Sizes S-4XL – This shirt is available in a standard short sleeve version, a ladies tee and a youth tee. For this comparison, we used the standard t-shirt.

Econscious – 5.5oz - Sizes S-2XL – This shirt is available in men’s short sleeve, men’s long sleeve, women’s short sleeve and men’s slim fit. For this review, we used the men’s short sleeve t-shirt.

Verve – 4.5oz – Sizes S-3XL – This shirt is available in men’s short sleeve and women’s short sleeve. For this review, we used the men’s short sleeve t-shirt.

Wearability – Pre wash – We wanted to compare how the shirts felt before being washed, so below are our observations;

Wearability – Post-Wash – After putting the shirts through the washing machine and dryer, we wore the shirts again to see how they performed. We were pleased with how all three shirts washed and dried. We were told that the organic cotton would shrink after washing. They did shrink but it was minimal and proportional. In addition, they wrinkled no more than your standard 100% cotton t-shirt.

Available Colors – In the promotional product market, the colors available for a product can be extremely important for the potential use of the product. So below is the list of available colors for each of these three shirts;

Anvil – Black, Charcoal, Chocolate, City Green, Natural, Navy, Red, River Blue, White, Yellow Haze

Econscious – Natural, Aloe, White, Black, Earth, Pacific

Verve – Natural

Pricing – Below is pricing for these shirts with a one color silk-screened imprint with an order quantity of 48.

Anvil – $6.50

Econscious – $9.25

Verve – $8.50

Verve offers a four color process eco-friendly printing process that has the logo print directly into the garment instead of having the imprint be on top of the shirt, like traditional silk-screening. This is an eco-friendly printing process because none of the inks used in the process are toxic. The resulting imprint is extremely soft and allows the buyer to be much for flexible with imprint choices. For an order of 48 using this process, the cost is $10.30 each.

Overall Rating

Anvil – The Anvil Organic t-shirt is your basic shirt option. It is available in a wide variety of colors and at a good price point for organic shirts. Our biggest issue with this shirt is that it is not very comfortable with its course feel. However if you have a limited budget and want to have an organic shirt, this certainly would be an acceptable option.

Econscious – Recommended – The organic shirt from Econscious is a comfortable shirt that is available in a nice earth tone color palette. It is the most expensive option but you do get what you pay for. Anyone offering this shirt to clients, employees or prospects would certainly know that this shirt will represent their brand very well.

Verve – Recommended - We like this shirt from Verve for a couple of reasons. First, we think the eco-friendly printing process that they perform has a great look and feel to it. Second, the shirt is comfortable and good looking. The biggest limitation on this shirt is the fact that it is only available in the Natural color. But if the color works for you, this shirt is a great choice.
